Again this year, our Squadron entered the Orleans
Parade of Lights with a familiar yet not so familiar entry. While most of us
would recognize “Tug-a-Long”, her decorations were in keeping with this holiday
season. Gone were the flowers and décor of the Tulip Festival Flotilla, replaced
by the Christmas theme of reindeer, dolphins, wrapped presents and colourful
flashing lights. All of this would not be possible without the long hours of
hard work, creativity and dedication of Rolly Nantel. To you sir, our sincerest
thank you.
In keeping with our squadron tradition of having great influence
with the weatherman , mother nature cooperated to moderate the temperature to a
crisp level, hold back the snow, calm the wind and gave us a great atmosphere
for the parade.
The parade attendance was estimated at over 100,000 people. That
means that the Squadron message was seen by one of the largest audiences in the
area.
A special thanks to all who came out to help distribute candy
canes to the children, large and small. From the squadron, were, our Commander,
Cathie Johnstone, Jim MacLeod, Rolly Nantel, Robert Milburn and yours truly. We
were fortunate to have five additional volunteers who were non members,
namely:Sandy Nantel, Lynn Pressacco, Robert, June Gauthier and Larry Martin.
Some of these people have already volunteered for next years float.
We look forward to seeing many of you next year.
Fred Cameron
Squadron Social Activities Officer.
