COURSE DESCRIPTION

Course Duration:  10 two-hour weekly sessions.

"As the skies appear to a man, so is his mind.  Some see only clouds; some, prodigies and portents; some rarely look up at all."
(Thoreau 1852)

This introductory course teaches "The Fundamentals of Weather" which can be directly applied by you.  You will be able to make informed and sometimes critical decisions related to the safety of all concerned.

You can impress your friends with statements like "the barometric tendency, north east wind and alto stratus clouds – warm front with a day of rain approaching”.  Taught by an instructor known to bring blowtorches, tea kettles, garbage bags, paint stripping gun and other weird things to demonstrate in class, this is weather that's fun – you do it all indoors.  Best of all no one has been known to fail the exam – join that unique group that actually knows what a kilopascal is!

Course content:
  • How the sun causes weather
  • What causes the wind to blow
  • Water in the atmosphere
  • Clouds - signposts of the Sky
  • Fronts and frontal weather
  • Thunderstorms and tornadoes
  • Forecasting the weather.
